The 8th annual Laughter is the Best Medicine event was held Oct. 22 at the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass with more than 500 people in attendance. The black-tie gala to benefit Chandler Regional and Mercy Gilbert Medical Centers raised over $300,000 thanks to the work of staff, 30-plus volunteers and an amazing group of donors.
Emcee Bob Stromberg carried the audience through a packed program, including the announcement of the 2011 Marreel Excellence in Service Awards, presented by hospital presidents Patty White and Tim Bricker to physicians, employees or volunteers who were recognized by patients and their families, and confirmed by peers, as providing outstanding service and compassionate care.
Rob Pearson entertained the crowd with good, clean humor and physical comedy – including unicycle riding! Look for Ron this fall on the Disney Channel. An incredible live auction was hosted by Mark Lewis again this year.
Diane Abraham, the new president and CEO of the East Valley Foundation, was present for her first Laughter event, and was so grateful for all in attendance. She noted what an honor it is to work to raise funds supporting two amazing hospitals, which were both recently singled-out with prestigious awards for quality.
The Foundation thanks the major event sponsors CHW East Valley – Volunteers, Clin-Path Associates, Southwest Ambulance, Mercy Care Plan and Ocotillo Golf Resort and our hosts the Gila River Indian Community and the Sheraton. Special thanks to Michelle Angle, the event chair; Julia Marreel, the auction chair; and Reba Boyd, the decorations chair – who put together a lovely evening for everyone.
Since 2004, Laughter has raised more than $2 million for community programs, life-saving medical equipment, and capital expansion projects. Revenue raised by CHW Foundation - East Valley has a direct impact on patient care and improving the health of our community.
We invite you to sponsor or attend next year’s event, where you’ll not only be supporting the hospitals, but enjoying an evening filled with fun and laughter!
