Growth, Innovation, and Leadership
Building on the strong base that has been created by our Board, donors, and countless volunteers, the CHW Foundation – East Valley will continue on its path of improving healthcare resources for our community.
Just as our philanthropic activities directly complement CHW’s mission of delivering compassionate, high-quality, and affordable health services, serving and advocating for the poor and disenfranchised, and partnering with others in the community to improve quality of life, we are equally committed to the three pillars by which CHW aligns its vision. Those pillars – growth, innovation, and leadership – are the guiding force behind our ability to bring measurable healthcare results to the communities we serve.
Growth
The CHW Foundation – East Valley will focus on identifying charitable funding sources to support the expansion of four clinical service lines in highest demand in the East Valley: Cardiovascular services, Neurosciences, Orthopedics, and Pediatrics. Expansion of these services will occur across both East Valley facilities, with Pediatrics based at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, making the availability of highly-specialized services convenient to all East Valley residents.
Philanthropy will drive the planned master facility build-out at Chandler Regional Medical Center, where 100 patient beds will be added, with specific focus on broadening Cardiovascular services and expanding the Emergency Department. A five-story tower will house areas dedicated to general and Cardiovascular ICU, Surgery, Telemetry, Emergency, Imaging, and other related services. Expansion priorities have been strategically identified based on community demand, capacity of existing facilities, and resource-driven feasibility assessments and will commence in fiscal year 2009 with various phases scheduled for completion from 2010 to 2012.
A community fundraising campaign is underway to develop the Gila River Indian Community Healing Garden at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center. This place of serenity for patients, families, and loved ones is a partnership between CHW and the Gila River Indian Community and is a reflection of our shared interest in creating an atmosphere that promotes the healing power of the mind, body, and spirit.
Innovation
As evidenced by the CHW Foundation – East Valley’s focus on community outreach efforts last year, and the success of the highlighted programs as well as numerous other initiatives, the Foundation will direct its attention to expanding these programs via philanthropic channels. The goal is to increase access to community healthcare programs and create, or enhance, the community benefit that results from their existence.
Particular attention will be paid to enlisting donations for programs unique to CHW in the East Valley that promote collaboration and create long-term, measurable impact without duplicating existing community services. Such programs include, but are not limited to, Building Blocks for Children and Community-Based Mammography.
Leadership
The CHW Foundation – East Valley’s role in developing leadership around its facilities and community outreach programs is two-fold. First, the Foundation seeks to secure funding for education and training to improve knowledge and elevate skill among medical staff and employees, including continuing education for those interested in pursuing advanced degrees; conferences, and seminars for leading-edge information of clinical service lines; organizational development, and administrative management programs.
Second, the Foundation will continue to provide integral organizational leadership by serving as a credible funding source for programs, services, and capital projects. The Foundation plays an influential role in strategic planning and growth. As such, the Foundation delivers valuable information on healthcare initiatives the community is most interested in funding and assists in allocating dollars to meet the greatest needs.
